History

Ritter Adair was formed in 2010 by Kevin Ritter and Laura Adair.

Our wish was to form a smaller, more focused CPA firm to allow us to provide our expertise in Tax, Accounting Services and QuickBooks Consulting.

We saw a need for payroll preparation and financial reporting for smaller businesses within the Bismarck-Mandan community and greater North Dakota.

Creating an atmosphere of a true work/life balance is important to us. Each of our staff members has a personalized work schedule. We’re committed to providing a workplace that supports one another, has a team approach to client work and strives for excellence in the quality of work product we present to clients.

For years, Ritter Adair & Associates, PC has been providing quality financial statement, tax preparation and accounting services to individuals and businesses. Our expertise ranges from basic accounting services to complex financial statements and tax planning.

At Ritter Adair & Associates, PC, we care about our clients, our community, and one another. Our team strives to provide solutions to the tax, financial, or business issues that keep you awake at night. We offer a host of specialty services, which cater to the unique needs of our clients.

At Ritter Adair we strive for simplification of bookkeeping and explanation of tax situations for our clients. We work to create streamlined processes, easily followed by ourselves and our clients so we know what to expect from one another. We prioritize cross-training of our staff so that any one of us can take care of a client’s needs, should another staff member be unavailable.

We strive to be less intimidating, more approachable and available to our clients.We dig in and learn your processes and continually search for efficiencies in your accounting/bookkeeping system. We encourage our clients to communicate with us during the year; call, email, ask questions…we are here to help!

Who We Are

Kevin R. Ritter, CPA

Kevin specializes in business and individual taxation and planning, financial statement preparation and QuickBooks consulting services. He has been a QuickBooks ProAdvisor since 2004 and is also a member of the North Dakota Society of CPAs and the AICPA.

When Kevin is not in the office, you can find him at his farm tinkering with “farm” projects and inventing gadgets to better “get the job done.” He is always building some project and is always willing to go the extra mile for anyone who might need a hand. Kevin offers his time and resources any time a friend, colleague or acquaintance expresses a need. His love for his dogs and hunting provides us with countless stories around the lunch table. Kevin has been a member of Pheasants Forever and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation for many years, serving on the boards of both. Kevin and his wife Becky have two grown daughters.

Laura G. Adair, CPA

Laura works with individuals and business clients as well as estates and trusts.  She is experienced in payroll, reporting and compliance issues, QuickBooks consulting, tax planning and tax preparation for a wide variety of individuals and industry types.

 Laura has been actively involved with the North Dakota CPA Society and ND State Board of Accountancy.

Always striving for a work/life balance, she tries to travel as much as possible with her family.  Cooking, reading, gardening, and working in the dirt are some of her favorite pastimes. Creative outlets are important to her such as painting and photography.  She loves active adventures like hiking and snorkeling when on vacation with her husband and grown children and their families.

Karen Stenehjem, CPA

Karen specializes in tax preparation for individuals and businesses, out-sourced accounting, and preparation of financial statements.  She is experienced in payroll, reporting and compliance issues, QuickBooks consulting, tax planning and tax preparation for a wide variety of industry types.  She enjoys helping clients understand their books and tax situations by explaining concepts in easy-to-understand lingo.  Karen is good at simplifying complicated accounting scenarios for streamlined input and reporting.  She places a high priority on accuracy and client satisfaction.  She is a member of the Alaska Society of CPAs and AICPA.

Karen has many interests and activities outside the office.  She enjoys visiting new places and especially loves the beach, sand in her toes and ocean breeze through her hair.  She is creative and talented in her attention to detail and enjoys working on home projects whenever she can.  While she enjoys traveling and new experiences, she is just as happy to stay at home with a warm cup of coffee on a lazy weekend morning.

Sarah Kuntz, CPA

Sarah works with individual and business tax preparation with an emphasis on agriculture and construction contractors.   She also serves our clients’ outsourced accounting and payroll needs. Sarah brings a wealth of knowledge to the public accounting profession gained from her work experience in credit analysis for businesses and agriculture loans as well as auditing work of various entity types. She is thorough and strives for excellence in the work she produces.

 Sarah is a member of the North Dakota CPA Society. She enjoys spending time with family on projects and anything that keeps her outdoors and active.

Ann Johansen, CPA

Ann focuses in providing tax preparation services to businesses and individuals. She is knowledgeable in payroll, reporting and compliance issues, tax planning and tax preparation for a wide variety of individuals and industry types.  Ann strives to meet clients’ needs, help them achieve their goals and reduce the matters that keep them up at night. She is a member of the North Dakota CPA Society and the AICPA.

Ann is active in the Bismarck-Mandan youth community and is the current Treasurer of the Bismarck Mandan Lacrosse Association.  In her free time she enjoys many activities but a few are photography, baking, gardening and reading.  One of her favorite outdoor activities is to paddle board with her husband and two children to see who can stay up the longest.

Tonda Berger

Tonda works in accounting and bookkeeping. She has more than 20 years of accounting and payroll services experience. In her spare time she enjoys traveling with her husband, hiking, yoga, kayaking and spending time with their three grown children.  She also has 2 grandchildren and a golden doodle named Roscoe.

Missy Herman

Missy is a graduate of the University of Mary, and considers herself a lifelong learner. Missy works in accounting, bookkeeping and office management. She has over 15 years of experience in administrative services, training, payroll, accounting and bookkeeping. She enjoys her interactions with clients and finds much satisfaction in helping them to gain bookkeeping skills to most efficiently meet their business needs.

Missy has been a volunteer board member for Dakota Women’s Retreat since 2013. In her spare time she enjoys fishing, painting and especially singing loudly in the car. Missy and her husband Rob have three children and two dogs.

Jessica Knudson

Jessica works in accounting and bookkeeping.  She has over 11 years of experience in bookkeeping and payroll services.  She was born and raised in Williston, ventured to Minot in 2013, and finally landed in Bismarck/Mandan in 2021.  She is a graduate of Minot State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and a minor in Management.  In her spare time, she enjoys dirt track racing and spending time with friends and family.

Amanda Phillips

Amanda is most often the first person our clients connect with at Ritter Adair as she works in the role of office coordinator. She is a retired member of the ND Army National Guard where she spent the majority of her 24-year career as a Logistical Specialist. Amanda is organized, detailed and always ready to lend a helping hand with a smile on her face. Outside of work she loves to be outdoors spending time with her family and friends. She enjoys gardening and working around her family farm.
